We have a Redhat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0 linux box. We would like to
implement the authentication through the LDAP server in the linux box for
the users accessing from the windows client, linux client etc. Is this a
correct approach ?. Are there any plugin software available in linux in
order to carry out the authentication ?We would like to install the CVS server on the same linux box. We need to
assign file and user level permission to be set for the CVS repositories for
indiviual users permission instead of group level permissions. Could you
please suggest us the technical feasiabilty for this implementaionAlagar Raja R

-I think you can use LDAP for the purpose you describe, but if the Windows boxes are NT or later, this may be a little more technically difficult.
-If all users need to share the same CVS repository, I do not know how to accomplish what you want. I typically set up a 'cvs' group, add all users to it, and use 'ssh' for secure access (install Cygwin with CVS and ssh on the Win boxes)
-If however, each user is OK with a 'private' CVS repository only, you can do what you describe.
-Have you considered Subversion as a repository server? I believe it has the capability of restricting particular users to only part of the repository (but am not absolutely sure).
