In your config.sys file on C:\, there is an entry like this:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)

If so, there should also be entries in the autoexec.bat file to prepare and select the appropriate codepage. So something like this:

mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=850

So you can add such lines to your autoexec.bat file or simply delete this "mode con" lines completely as well as the line in the config.sys, where the display driver gets loaded.

In the case, you delete these lines, standard codepages are used. normally codepage 437.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!
