Hi, I recently installed (and re-installed) kubuntu 8.04.2. I think I updated it to 8.10, but I'm not sure.

I earlier tried to do a version upgrade to 9.04, but it really messed up my system. So I re-installed kubuntu 8.1/whatever and discovered kubuntu does not support my wireless card drivers!
I have an Atheros 5007EG Wireless Network Adapter that works with Windows (Vista, Home Premium) but not with kubuntu (I even got a message saying it didn't). I've tried using ndiswrapper (not sure if i did it right) and installing the Windows Drivers app, but Windows uses .sys files, not .inf, and the .sys file is what i need and it's not anywhere located as an .inf file (it's called athr.sys).

I have a Toshiba Satellite a200 series laptop. Should I just buy a USB hub and a USB Wireless Adapter? I think i use 802.11b/g...

Why did you choose Kubuntu over Ubuntu, Xubuntu or Mint?

Well, kubuntu is the first one I came into contact with, so naturally, I was like "Oh wow I want that, too!" My friend is a software developer, and he has at least 5 computers running kubuntu in his home (his laptop runs Debian). I guess I thought it wouldn't be too hard setting it up because he knows what he's doing; he could help me. Truth is, his driver(s) worked right away; he didn't have to use ndiswrapper or anything to get it working.

I guess maybe I'll try installing Ubuntu, see how I like it. But if I still like the kubuntu (interface/look) more, can I just install the KDE packages?

EDIT Wait, I'm downloading Ubuntu 9.04 now....
Will it have the same permission issues my install of kubuntu 9.04 had?

I recommend Mint Linux...it's based on Ubuntu, but it's better :)

Ok well I installed Ubuntu and the wireless works.

Now I have a new problem, but I'm going to create a new message for it.

Thanks for your suggestions!

EDIT: never mind, that problem is solved, too!
Seems I find solutions for my problems just as soon as I discover them!

I hope Windows 7 is better than Vista.
The Ubuntu project sure is.
