Hi,
I have compiled a kernel from gentoo sources before with little module support. Everything I needed I enabled in the kernel. Yet I know sqwat about finding, configuring, and loading modules in linux.
Ok say I have slackware and I use a test 2.6 kernel from the disk, which does not load any modules, but then I read something that says you can download them from the site. So then I get them and installpkg slackwarewhatever
installs then what. Are they loaded? How do I know what one are there? are they configured or NOW do I need to configure them with modprobe.
I know you add them to start a boot as well and that enabling module support for your hardware makes the kernel lighter and faster.
I have read many pages on this, but still do not get it. I used slackware as an example as they tend to be more unix like and I would like to end up with a non-binary OS.
Where are modules commanly stored?

ok a better question might be:
I know what LKM's are running how do I configure them. I have a troublesome toshiba qosmio acpi problems. I know the toshiba_acpi is loaded but how do I configure it?
You know what sucks.
Is when people answer posts
with assumptions.
