Hey,
I'm getting this error when loading Linux. I'm trying to load linux because I'm getting another error, lol. The error I'm getting is:
" Boot ATAPI CD-ROM: Failure ......."
I went on google to try and fix this error, and I guess I have to rebuild Lilo through Linux. Only problem is, I can't access Linux because it gives me the error:
" Kernal Panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. "
I also tried google for this but the explanations are very hard to understand.
I'd like to know how to fix this Kernel error, but could someone please explain it for like someone who isn't very advanced in computers?
Oh another thing, it seems like my floppy disks aren't booting either. Every time I try booting something from floppy, it gives me this error:
"PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT"
All I want to really do is remove Linux completely from my system and re-install Windows 98. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, which do you want to do, fixing Linux or re-installing Windows 98 on your system? If you want to re-installing Windows 98 on your system that already has Linux, just boot it with your 98 CD and process from there. It will allow you to delete and format the harddrive (even with Linux on it) before it installs 98 on it... But if you want to fix the problem with Linux so you can use it again, then maybe I can help you with that too!

well you see, I can't boot the windows 98 CD because it gives me a " Boot ATAPI CD-ROM: Failure...." error. I checked google and in order to fix this, I need to go on Linux and fix the Lilo bootscreen. But Linux isn't booting, its giving me a Kernel error mentioned above.

Sorry but that error message has nothing to do with Linux bootloader!!! Perhaps there is something wrong with your CD-ROM. I recommand you open up your box and check on the cable to make sure that it's not lose. And if it's not, it could mean that your CD-ROM is dead or damaged.

I know, I also found it strange but I got many different sources saying it was Lilo. Check here:
http://www.cs.concordia.ca/help/tutorials/be245.html

If you follow those steps from their website, why don't you ask them directly to see what went wrong since they want you to remove the CD-ROM and if it can't boot, then insert the CD-ROM again...
On the other hand, why don't you get into your BIOS and switch to boot floppy first instead of CD-ROM. Then, insert a bootable floppy disk, Windows 98 (if you have one; if not, then you can download one from the net...), and wait for it to boot up. At the A: prompt, type
A:\> fdisk /mbr
to remove LILO from MBR...

The weird thing is, when I try booting from floppy, it says "PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT" so it just keeps rebooting.

What floppy are you trying to boot off?
You could try the following, not sure if it
will work though, depends how many times
you have run lilo:
1) Boot linux but at the lilo prompt type:
linux init=/bin/bash
2) This should boot you straight into a
shell. From there try uninstalling lilo
with:
# lilo -u

I would not worry about the Boot ATAPI CDROM failure, if your bios is the same as mine, that is just a mean way of saying that there is not a bootable cd rom in your drive. :-)
