Hello I installed redhat linux 7.1 on my system which has already w2k and it's working fine on first shot. After that i added one more logical partition in the extended dos partition for applications on w2k. Now if i reboot my machine to linux, it shows "Kelnel panic: no init found try passing init=option to kernel. I don't remember which partition i have installed linux root partition. thanks

boot your pc with the second CD of RH 7.1 this will give you a shell with some tools. From here try to use fdisk to see which partition is your root partition... then you have to make a bootdisk with root partition set to the right one (use rdev to do this)

I know the problem but just can not solve
it right now without my documentation. If
you can find an answer pretty soon
Re-install, that should fix it.

thanks Steven, actually i got my root partition from w2k expolre2fs software. Then i rebooted the linux with root=/dev/hda9 option. It's working. And even i have edited my lilo.conf file to change root=/dev/hda9 i.e. new location and then /sbin/lilo. But next time reboots again kernel is still panic. So each time i am passing boot linux root=/dev/hda9. Any thing we can do for lilo.conf file

if you re-run lilo, by typing lilo that will fix your problem, and you won't have to pass the root= every time you boot.
