hi everybody,
i installed Knoppix 5.1 on my HD, using the CD version
when i tried to compile the drivers for my winmodem, it complained about kernel header files not being present
after doing a google search i learnt that the kernel headers are present in the DVD and not in the CD version
the exact file is
"linux-headers-2.6.19_2.6.19-10.00.Custom_i386.deb"
can someone with the DVD version pleeeez email it to me.
the file is supposed to be around 8MB
you can get my email by clicking my name.
thanx in advance

Alternatively, if you can get online, you can use your package manager to download linux-kernel-headers. I'm not sure what command to use for Knoppix. apt-get install linux-kernel-headers? I donno.

i am able to get online but only using windoze, since the modem is currently not functioning under linux
i've switched to Linux!

You have the dvd. Install the .deb package to your system. pretty sure you don't need to download it.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

hi, i have the CD and NOT the DVD
i do not have a DVD drive, that's why i thought of downloading iti've switched to Linux!

so as anyone will be able to tell from reading this. I am new to linux, for the most part.
Anyway, I've decided to put this question here, because everything I've found online trying to fix my this has referred to kernel headers.
I have a netgear wireless card, which apparently are known for having weird support issues on linux. Anyway, a little bit of research referred me to NDISwrapper; something about needing to use NDISwrapper to install the windows drivers into linux. Ok I can get ahold of an idea like that. Here's where things get sketchy though.
Downloaded the most recent NDISwrapper version 1.52
go to install it, first thing I notice that's a little sketchy is NDISwrapper installation instructions don't actually tell you where you should extract the .tar.gz file with NDISwrapper.
Fair enough I suppose, from what I gather it should run from the /home/<user> file. Or of course that could be what's creating my header error, I have no clue.extracted the .tar.gz from NDISwrapper in /home/<user> it of course creates a directory for NDISwrapper, awesome that's what it should do. Go in the directory and run the first thing install on NDISwrapper says to do.
Make Distclean
Makefile:24: *** Kernel tree not found - please set KBUILD to configured kernel.
Stop.Initial research suggest that I need to recompile my kernel, for some reason, that doesn't sound right to me.
More research revealed that I may only need to install Kernel Headers
So I unplugged my roommates internet and rebooted and let dhcp load to my cat5 port.
I'm running Fedora 9 Kernel 2.6.25-14
or rather I was, fedora popped up an online update thing, first note on the top of the list is "Kernel Headers" woohoo I thought I'm set now, let this run, redo NDISwrapper and I'm done. But alas now I have Kernel 2.6.25-18 and I still get the same error when I try to run NDISwrapper. Please help, I only want to be able to access internet without having to unplug my roomates computer. And I would rather not have to buy a new card.
