I just installed mandrake linux 9.2 on my computer. everything great except when I installed an rpm package xmms through the package manager when it was done installing all my menus where gone under the start menu in kde. I can still type the commands in on the command line but It is like it removed all the programs except for a dozen or so. Where did they go and how do I get them back? Any suggestions?

Thank you, Nicholas

try a few things:
1) run menudrake and make sure that the menu style is "all applications" and see if what is says is there corresponds to what you see.

2) rebooting (though usually entirely unnecessary in linux) might do it. i've found that mandrake sometimes unexpectedly changes certain settings for no good reason, and when i reboot and boot from the install cd, select upgrade and have it do essentially nothing, things are fixed when i reboot.

hope this helps.

This is a kde/menu bug with MDK 9.2. Open up a shell/console and 1) As root, type 'update-menus -v' (without the single quotes)and make sure you see this: "Dpkg not locking dpkg status area. Good.". When you see "Running method:/etc/menu-methods/simplified//kde3", you will have to hit CTRL+C to get back to a prompt. 2) As user, do the same. Also, you might want to update rpm and another package, (can't remember the name, but depends on rpm) if you haven't done so, for they supposedly fix the bug of the 'missing applications' menu. Since updating, I don't have any issues.

estatik
