Hey Lamb. What version of KDE 3.1 did you download from that site. I was there and saw a bunch of versions for various other distributions but didnt see redhat. Does the upgrade work well?

Thanks
Mike

Hey! I just finished installing KDE 3.1 on my RH8 system and Its runnin great! Its quite a bit easier than everone thinks thanks to apt-rpm and our friends at http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/

Here's the quick steps:

1. Get apt-rpm if you dont already have it: http://apt.freshrpms.net/
2. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line (you need to be root to do this):

rpm ftp://apt.unl.edu/apt/ 8.0 kde3 kde3-extras

3. Again, as root at a command line, type:

apt-get update && apt-get install kde

This updates apt's rpm database and then downloads and installs KDE 3.1 and all dependencies (i.e. qt and what not)

Hope this helps. If you need/want more info on this or any other subject, i keep a pretty tight knowledge base for newbies and intermediate linux users with a focus on redhat 8.0... Check it out: http://wintertospring.8m.com
