Well, my SiS 6215 C card runs just fine under Linux as long as I keep the 1024x768 mode disabled (as in comment out that modeline.). According to HOWTOs and other documentation, it should run fine in 16bpp at 1024x768. When I try that, it starts up well, but the screen keeps jumping. The interesting thing is, this varies with the window manager environment. Take a look at this: 1. At the gdm login screen, the screen jumps only on a key press. 2. In Gnome running Sawfish, the screen is perpetually jumping with slow jerks normally and fast jerks when a self refreshing window is open. 3. In KDE, the screen jumps only at key presses and mouse clicks. Also while dragging the windows. 4. The sound (whether system sounds or MP3 music) screeches and drags when the screen jumps. All this seems rather strange to me, more so since none of my other aquaintances who have this card have this problem.
