I'm not a programmer. I have a simple question. I've just installed a fresh copy of RedHat 7.3 and was wondering if I need to download Java SDK or JRE to simply view java applets on web pages, or is the simple plugin already included in the distro? I'm frightened and confused....Thank You.

if u install netscape 6 or 7 you can choose if u want to include the java plugin and runtime.
i would still recommend installing j2re so that you have a reliable runtime env for java apps

Nothing bad is happening, I just get an error message when trying to view webpages with java applets running....I mean I can live without them, but it would just make my Linux experience tha much more "fulfilling" ;)

What did the error message say and do you have java on your path??? Normally, when you install java, it would go into /usr/bin/java so you NEED to add that to your path so programs which require java know where to look,
