Is slackware a decent distribution for a server? If not what would you recommend.

Any Linux distro is a good server (as long as it's not MicroSuck) and if you decide to pick Slackware Linux, I think you make a great choice.

Well the linux people will hate me for this, but if you want a server, get FreeBSD 4.10, its rock solid and a hell of a lot faster than anything you've ever seen.

I am currently running two slackware 9.1 servers here at work, one acting as a samba file and print server and the other DHCP, DNS, backup etc. They have had an uptime of over half a year as I have not yet needed to reboot them since installation and they seem to be doing a grand job. I also run slack as my desktop and on my PCs at home.
Other good choices in my opinion would be Debian or FreeBSD.
