Hi all,
I'm currently a Windows user studying 3D animation and was wondering if anyone here running Linux finds it to be a suitable OS for this type of work. Are there any differences in how well supported software will run between Windows and Linux or is the choice to use on OS over another just a matter of preference?

Yes Linux is very good at 3D and Animation. lots of major companies are running linux on there systems (ILM) and Lots of movies where done on linux (eg Episode 2, scooby doo etc.). Most Major applications are avalible for linux (eg Maya, Softimage XSI, ...) I currently work With blender under Linux and find that it runs mush better than under M$.
