i've got a slackware 8.1 box connected to boradband on the first port via DHCP. I want to connect two others computers to the internet throught this one (one windows and one linux). i've just plugged 2 ne2000 compatible isapnp thernet cards in and i'm wondering how to set it all up. (networking isn't my strong point). also will i be able to get access to the other computers with this setup?

Take a look at the brisging and routing sections on tldp.org:

Although thinking about it, why not plug the other two computers directly into the router? They should all be able to share both files and internet connection....

OK, you want the Linux box to *be* the router.

The other boxes still have to communicate with it, even if they cannot communicate directly with the net.

Easiest and cheapest(?) way is to set up a LAN using a 'switch' or 'hub'. You do have one of those right?

Hmmmm .... I am thinking two (2) NICs in the router box as well. You have them, right?

There are HOWTOs on all this at tldp.org as indicated above. Look for ones about NAT, and you probably want to think about what firewall setup you have.

(Actually, its cheaper and less headache to just buy a router, let it manage the internet (WAN) connection, they are not expensive these days.)

"...connected to broadband on the first port..."
So what are the other ports for if it is not a hub/switch built into the broadband router?
