I notice my laptop has a place on the mobo where a 'device' Where i assume would be a internal wireless card would go. I do not know what interface this connector is, but i would like to know if there is a wireless card that will go in this slot, but i must have one that will work great with xubuntu 9.04 (completely up to date) as i have a pci dell wirless 1350 wireless card that I cannot get to function on linux. (it will obtain a LAN IP and etc but cannot do anything online, with frequent disconnections from the router)

Does any one know what ammount of ram my laptop will take? it currently has 256mb (it must be built in because i cant find that ram chip any where) but i have 1 available ddr1 slot.

That's correct....your laptop has 256MB of non-removable RAM & a slot that accepts up to 1GB PC2700. A portion of that 256MB is being used by the onboard video so I don't imagine Xubuntu runs all that well.

As for your wireless, which driver are you using? Did you try the Windows driver with ndiswrapper?

thank you, and you are right as well. xubuntu does slow down quite a bit, and often.

i tried ndiswrapper but the driver was reverted back to where it says NULL(info.driver.linux) or similar i started to think the card was bad but i tested it to work perfect in windows. either a driver or a permission problem i guess, but i wasnt able to get help via google or the xubuntu irc chatroom.

heres an update:
by blacklisting my alternate driver 'ssb' all is working through reboots and removing and reinserting the card.
i cannot beleive it was that simple as i have been battleing this for about 2 weeks now.

onto the memory; would you recommend one of these cheaper ddr sticks rather than the expensive dell one?
