Anyone know of a way to get my Intel PRO/DSL 2100 modem working on Linux? Intel only support Windows. Any help much appreciated!

I had the same problem. That's why I got rid of Linux. It's useless to me, unless I can get it on the net...

You shouldn't have to get rid of Linux.. There are so many low cost DSL routers out there (Linksys, D-Link, etc) these days, there's no excuse unless you're just scared of Linux or just to cheap to pay 100 bucks for a new router..

I am taking a survey from the newsgroups on those users who are interested in a Linux driver for the Pro/DSL 2100. Please e-mail me at:

Please do make Linux drivers! I just got Linux for routing and also just got and Intel modem for DSL. Routing is so much better in Linux than Windows ME (<-- ugh).

I hope you have emailed Randy Trost in addition to posting here. I would think most people reading this are already in support of having the driver.

Linux without net access is very useless for me. I hope a driver comes out, it would be great... by the way, to respond to a previous post, $100 is far from being cheap, it's quite a lot of money for some people! If it's so cheap for that person, buy me one!

Any luck on a Linux driver for this modem yet? I'd love to use this modem with the E-Smith package to give our employees home network access. Qwest is supplying these modems by default. If I can't get it to work, I may have to invest in alternate hardware.

If you really want to use Linux (which I think you should instead of Winblows) do it. you can always duel boot it and if you need the net you can use it. Also if you can figure out how to use that NIC card in your winblows box you can always use linux on the second computer using win as the server.
Linux if very user friendly more so than winB try also the Linux forums they are always looking for new drivers to write.

I would be quite interested in a linux driver as having to boot into windows every time i feel like using the net is starting to anger me. I just installed linux, and dont think it will stay on long unless i find some way to use my qwest dsl under it.

Another vote: "YES" for a linux driver, or at least make available to the public the specificatons needed so the (GNU) open source community can write a driver for it.

I'd like a driver for it, too - but, about the router - is that one of those hub-type, independant DSL things with the built-in firewall? I've seem them around for pretty cheap - I don't need any kind of driver with it? You must need some kind of software to configure it ... I'm kindof in the dark ...
Oh and I did send email to Randy...

Nothing else will do (except a t1 of
