I installed the drivers for my modem, and it isn't being auto-detected still.
If I could get instructions on how to view the boot log, I could post some things I'm getting at boot that say something about ttyS3 (or some number) not being found.
I've been trying to install this thing for a while and have been unable to get any help for it, if anyone knows the steps on going about installing a modem that isn't auto-detected, it would be muchly appreciated if you were to help.. Also I got the modem from a good friend at a computer store who swears up and down it's a hardware modem, and it's also an internal modem.
Thanks in advance!

As quoted from http://www.modemdriver.com/winmodems.htm:
"How about PCI modems? Are all PCI modems winmodems? No, there are at least three types of controller-based PCI modems. They are somewhat more difficult to set up than a jumpered ISA modem or an external serial port modem. Linux 2.4 will probably include automagic setup of PCI hardware modems.
...
USR/TI Kermit chipset:
the 3Com/USR 3CP5610 family, which includes models 5613, 5609, and OEM models 2976, 2977, and 3258"This says the USR 2976 is part of the USR 3CP5610 family and is a hardware controller-based PCI modem.
I use the USR 2976-OEM-50 with RedHat 7.3. It shows up as this PCI device:
Bus 0, device 11, function 0:
Serial controller: US Robotics/3Com 56K FaxModem Model 5610 (rev 1)(prog-if [16550])
Subsystem: US Robotics/3Com 56K Internal Voice Modem (Model 2976)
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 3.
I/O ports at e800 [size=8]
Capabilities: [dc Power Management version 2If I run KPPP and scan for the modem it finds it with no problem. It shows the modem as using device /dev/modem.
/dev/modem is actually a link to the real serial port. To find the real port I type the following command:
[root@durango home]# ls -l /dev/modem
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 16 2003 /dev/modem -> /dev/ttyS4This gives the real serial port as /dev/ttyS4. In DOS or Windows this is COM5.

Well, is mandrake known for being bad with modems? I have been trying to get this thing to work for a while. I just need step by step manual commands to do to get this thing working right. I want to convert over to linux more, but I'm online a lot, and can't get online with it now :/

I went and put in..
cd /dev
ln -s ttyS2 modemIt's supposed to link /modem to ttyS2, I'm sure. So I went in kppp and it can't find resolv.conf and it won't let me write to /dev for some reason.. also, there's a folder named /dev/tts (or something of the like) that a file named 2 is supposed to be in from what I can see.. and there isn't. How would I go about fixing these two problems? Thanks
