I have a laptop which has been installed win2k server. I have another free partition so I installed redhat 8.0. First time installation was not successfull as during the initial installation it says cannot probe monitor, and I choose the GUI GNOME option and after installation it gives error. I then installed again, but this time, without the GUI GNOME option. It was successfull. I have 2 diff os on a single drive and I can choose whatever OS I want to but since I did not choose GUI mode, I am stuck at the command prompt. Is there a way to install the GUI mode using the command prompt and is there a way to probe the monitor? appreciate the feedbacks

First you want to set up X corectly so that you can display a graphical desktop, redhat-config-xsetup I think is the command under RedHat.
Once you have got that going and tested, you can install Gnome using either a package manager or urpmi, both of which will resolve any dependencies for you.
You may also be able to run the RadHat setup tool again and just add the Gnome desktop option....not sure about that one though.
