Setup a ftp server on the laptop and copy the linux cds into a directory that can be reached by the ftp server. On the first cd there is a directory called images. In there are several floppy images. The image bootnet.img is a floppy image for installing over the network. Use dd or rawrite.exe to copy that image to a floppy. Use it to boot the desktop. Early on one of the questions asked is how to you want to install, select ftp and point it at the laptop.
