I have an old 486 that i want to install Linux on, but i don't know what distro/version to use - it is 25 mhz, has 640 KB memory and a 330 meg hard drive (no CD-ROM or modem)... I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

you should have no problem installing on a 486. I've installed on a 386. The 640k of memory is a problem, however. You should consider finding some extra RAM. A hardware show is a good place to start. You probably can't order it anymore. 4-8 megs is a safe goal. Slackware is a good distro mainly because it WON"T install all the extras. X WILL be slow. You can bet on that. And, I wouldn't install the Linux source because of the limited space. Good luck.
