the computer locks when I get to video configuration during installation. Nvidia geforce2 mx 100/200 and the monitor is a mitac 15" LCD.
I can run Linux and use the GUI (KDE), but the login dialogue box doesn't have the shutdown option or those head icons with the user name:(, and when I go to log off the system sometimes freezes or if it doesn't I don't have the option to shutdown anyway.
I have downloaded drivers from nvidia and was wondering if I can repair the installation after loading these drivers or will I have to install linux without a GUI, install the drivers and then setup the GUI.
any help gratefully recieved

I don't know about the video, but as for the
shutting down, once you're logged into X, I think
you can just open up a terminal and type halt. I
think I remember doing that before on some
machine I was using before.

Thanks for responding guys but I've already tried those and my comp just freezes. The bloody thing's laughing at me I just know it. I reckon there's a Microsoft gremlin in there refusing to let go :)
I hope I'm in the right area assuming that it could be hardware configuration causing this problem. If I'm totally off track would someone let me know.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond Lawrence and Aircows. any other ideas gratefully recieved.
Matt

You system won't even let you execuate the
shutdown command! There is something going
with your system then... By the way, did
you upgrade the video card with the latest
driver?Lawrence

In the process of doing that. It's just finding the time. Would you agree that it's possibly a hardware configuration problem causing this.
I've actually found something on configuring the vid card with sax2. Can I reinstall just the x system after completing the configuration and installing the recent drivers.
