Hi guys,
i´m a very new newbie and my problem is for a freak an easy thing. I want to install win98 and Linux RedHat 7.0. The size of my hd is 40 gb. I want a partition of 3000 mb for my win98, a 15000 mb partition for win98 games, a 15000 mb partition for win98 programs and the rest should be for my 3 linux partitions. My biggest problem ist the correct partition.
1.
If i use fdisk in dosmode, i can create my fat partitions, but not the partitions for linux.
2.
If i make the partitions with linux and install it after the formation of the drives, i can´t install my windows, because it (PC) do not recognize my vfat partition.A step by step install-introduction or tutorial could be the right for my problem...
thanks,
Simon

What does it mean? Any case, go to
http://www.lester.co.uk/ranish/part/
and use the Ranish Partition Manager,
it is MUCH more flexible and convenient than the standard DOS (and even, imho, LINUX) fdisk. And also documentation is veru good, read it!
You could easily create (LINIX and DOS/WINDOWS) partitions and format new partion(s) (only for DOS/W) from within PM.An advice: if LINUX is already installed, then, do not forget to create a boot disk (
you will need it to start LINUX as Windows will rewrite your MBR)...
Another advice: hope you remember/know
about 4 primary partitions limit, you
should try to use logical ones...But I woud advice to use SyMon (System Monitor) from
http://symon.da.ru/
extremely usefull (and free) program
with the following features:Up to 36 simultaneous independent partitions with any file system
Up to 20 operating systems using any 4 of 36 partitions
Built-in fdisk for easy creating, editing, deleting of the
partitions
Built-in Setup dialog for operating systems
Multiple hard drives support. Can boot from second hard drive
Full support of drives larger than 8Gb
Partition search facility which can restore partition structure of
disk
Password setting/checking for each OS, floppy booting, accessing the
tools
Built-in disk editor for low level disk structures reparing
Timer to start default operating system
Turning off the power for ATX power supplI myself have used SYMON to have PENTA(!)-boot:
5 different OS's (3 win's + 2 lin's)
with 8 primary partitions (for various dos and Windows stuff) and one extended
with 3 logical (all for LINUX)...Best Kostja

Hi everyone! I have a question around the same lines. DOS only sees up to 2GB of a partition. So, the largest drive you can have in DOS is 8GB. If i want to utilize a larger drive's space, can I partition with a different OS? For instance, If I load WIN98 will I be able to partition with it's startup disc? I'm trying to do this for the first time, so I want it to go right! Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I want to know can I load Linix on the hda5 or hda6 partitions.Bcoz I want to keep my hda1 partition intact....
So can Linux be loaded on the D 0r E drives ( Of Windows 98 )...
Kindly advise,
Sujit Nair.

I have the following problem. I've installed windows 98, windows 2000 and linux redhat 6.2 all in the same machine at the above installation sequence. Everything work just fine except one thing.
When I boot windows98 they try to recognize the linux partiotion. Although this partition is unreadable from win98 they assign a drive letter to it. So a big delay occurs everytime I try to access ms explorer until windows determine the unreadable state of the hd.
Question: Can I remove this HD from "my computer"? In other words, can I prevent windows98 of detecting linux partition?
