install startup for RH8

Comment:
I tried to install RH 8.0 and as it would begin to setup it would stop at "blk: queue" then some numbers and "I/O limit 4095 MB" then appears to freeze. HD and CD-ROM both stop working. Could it be a scratched CD or is my partition too big (it is 5900+ MB).

You should have a look at the RedHat website. I've heard a lot of horror stories about 8.0 (I'm running 7.3 with updates and plan on staying that way for a while).
BTW, I don't think it's a disk that's too big - I have 40 gig drive on my machine and no problems....

What kind of horrors are you talking about? True, xmms doesn't work out of a box but you can fix that real easy... Either download mpg123 (rpm) or the source and build it for the system.
Before you start installation RedHat Linux 8.0, did you test out the CDs? RedHat would allow to you check the CDs to see whether they are good or not... Should use that nice utility and it takes only a few extra minutes but you know right then whether you have a good or bad set of CDs!
