Install linux on xp computer

hi i want to install redhat linux 7.1 (came with my book) onto winxp home edition computer. The book sez to boot to dos but winxp is not dosbassed i could install from cmdprompt but it sez thats a bad idiea. I am going to install a new harddrive (60 gigs) for it to run on. plz help me

When u start the computer. Keep pressing the F8 key until u get the startup option screen, which lets u start in DOS mode, etc. Worth a try. Good luck

Since windows xp does not have a dos boot option I will put my 2 cents in. Try putting the cd in the drive and booting from the CD. If that doesn't work you could make a redhat boot disk and use that to get to the cd. Information about making a bootdisk for redhat should be available on the redhat homepage. But the boot from the cd should work.

its not set to boot from cd but i will try the redhat flopy boot idea thank you and ill thry f8

ok its installed but it froze at main gui and i hard rebooted. now it fails at 70% while checking "/" it sez 180558 block 0 offset 0
it sez under system rescue that my system has been mounted under /mnt/ssimage
and in install it sez that the partitions list doesnt match the sizes
please help
