Hi. I have Windows XP on Partition 1. Now, I can set the second partition active and then install Windows Vista. Then I can set partition 1 active again, boot up Windows XP and format the second Partition. Now, I want to install Linux on the second partition, while the second partition is active. How do I do that? Linux seems to want to create its own partitions which interferes with what I want to do.

I'm not sure if this is any good for you.

Create a separate partition. If you use a live cd like pclinuxos2007 or ubuntu, there is an icon with a wizard to set up the linux partitions. Just install to the partition you have created.
Or if you are just trying out Linux, I found wubi the easiest way to install ubuntu.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

If you are unsure (and you should be) you can run virtual machines and not worry. Every linux distro is a bit different. Some will bork your MBR and never tell you. Worse is if you don't know how to put the linux loader on the correct partition if needed for windows.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
