ok im moving away from gay windows, windows is one poor OS and i cant stand how it malfunctions constantly, i took a college course in solaris and i learn the basics of command line and ssh remote connections and what not and received an A in the course, but i still can't understand how to install diffrent programs. For example the psx emulator is hard to install and its a zip file that looks like windows file, and u have to use the unzip -d command to unzip it. once i unzip it, i use the ./configure and make and make install and has no affect and i also use chmodd 777 epsxe160lin.zip to make it executable and that makes no diff. another example is installing J2re (version#) was kinda pain in the butt having to go to the /usr/java/jr2.....file to ln -s it to the firefox plugin folder etc. and also whats pain the butt is searching around all day and trying to figure out how to install those dependency to install other programs. when u install things it dont even tell u where its being installed so how can u even launch the program. like limewire, i had to take the limewire and soft link it to my newly made /bin folder in my home directory to run it from the shell. I want to become a linux admin and i try to study it all day,and becomed discouraged about it quite often. i must say that i am a windows expert because that operating system is so easy that its a joke.
next semester im taking a RH300 class which i think its redhat academy which corresponds to redhat configure and install. i feel like no matter how many and what classes i take in unix/linux i will never be able to use it as good as windows. maybe its because i dont know how to program or i dont understand C++. java and perl language and what the coding represent. maybe i need to take a few classes on programing to be more efficient at linux. but whats funny is that the unix system admin degree at the college requires no programing prerequisites at all. how can u become more efficient at linux without no programming skills. Does anyone have any advice to become more efficient with linux and be able to feel more comfort using it?thanks
There is no place like 127.0.0.1
