I have seen most posts thru out this Fourm, and also notice that Robbo Promotes Microsoft Products, and well Bill Gates. The one thing that you have Failed to noticed, is well, This is a LINUX forum. Now People come here to learn about LINUX, not how Linux compares to Windows. Some request want comparisons, but thats not important.I have known from using both microsoft Products and Linux applications, that Windoze, is for the "typical" user, but lets face it now matter how much Windows Changes, Windows will always be the same old Interface. I dual boot, between Window Me, and Linux, So I am no Trader to either OS, However, I agree with Robbo's "100 Reasons Not to use Linux" on some things. But the Thrill of Linux, and learning it as you had to, with DOS makes users still Try it.
I think it is Just sad that most hardware verndors don't surrport linux more, but Windows does dominate. To make a correction #28 in the TCP/IP STACK was introduced in UNIX, therefore MS, stole it from whomever developed Unix.
My Two Cents

It's a shame this isn't a moderated forum like Slashdot.org If it was, I'm sure ol' "Robbo" wouldn't be such a pain in the tushy.

Brad this forum is moderated, and It was decided that my posts are fine, aslong as I dont start any posts(win Vs Linux) like this one, but to respond was not a problem. You will notice I've only ever started one post (months ago), the owner of this site saw no problem in defending Windows if linux users were to attack it, as long as I were not to start it.
Robbo

As sick as this sounds, Robbo is right. He does keep things in perspective. Posts should NOT be discarded because they disagree. I just want to see the TCP stack comparison. Where did you people FIND the Windows code?

Apple,
You're right. Posts should not be discarded if somebody disagrees. But why should I spend all my time reading flamewars and useless posts? The point of posting questions on this site is to get a quick answer to a legit question, not to waste time reading rants from Robbo, (or even this message).I think that computing.net should use a messageboard system similar to http://slashdot.org which uses "slashcode" found at http://slashcode.org The beauty of slashcode is that it allows all users to (eventually) moderate as to prevent a bias.
It also allows everybody to have their voice heard even if they get unfairly moderated down. At Slashdot, I can lower my tolerance to read all the posts, or raise it if I'm in a hurry and only want to read the best responses. If people here were rewarded for quality posts, I would be more than willing to bet that the quality would increase tenfold.

God this post is titled, linux vs win. I mean what am i supposed to answer to it? It is hardly a tech support question, but more a post just begging for some microsoft fanitic (like me) to respond to it. As i have said i'v only ever started one post about win vs Linux, All of my responses have been prompted by a post saying windows sucks or somehting along those lines.
If you dont want me saying stupid things dont provoke me with stupid questrions. As for the TCP thingy, I was told that Linux borrwed it, or were given it or it is simply cloned from win95. Thats as far as I've heard about it.
Robbo

This "tcpthingy" "you were told about";
you have brass balls even writing one
sentence on this forum.

marsd: Brass Balls? I don't get it...
How would you walk?Robbo: You get the wrong idea. The ones
provoking you to start ranting all over again
and the ones telling you not to are not the
same people. Keep that in mind when you are
reading around this forum.brad3378: Offensive posts such as Robbo is
infamous for can be reported by using the
link of the same name below each post. If
they are deemed offensive by the moderators
floating around this forum, following up on
the reports, the posts are removed.Apple: This forum is not for opinions,
period. Occasionally the line is blurred
when someone asks if they should use XXXXX,
but when that does not happen and someone is
still evangalizing any OS, when the same, or
very similiar posts apear, they should be
removed. Robbo was an extreme case, he came
one step short of posting commercials for
microsoft. Besides, if the system was not in
place, imagine the SPAM you would get on this
forum. Someone must decide what should not
be posted, and it is decided if the message
is appropriate, not if the moderator agrees
or disagrees. My Two Cents: I have no clue why you think
windows is for the 'typicl user'. The fact
is, everyone has windows because it's what
they've all known forever. If you were using
Linux machine since elementary school and
have seen nothing but linux machines, you
would think linux was great and easy and
windows would be cryptic to you. It's just a
matter of what people know, how long it takes
to change the tide of OSes and the effect of
Microsoft's fudd on the masses of mindless PC
users. I'd bet if all the software you used
ran on Linux you'd never buy another copy of
Windows again. Your perception is a bit off.brad3378: One more thing, how can you have
people voting on this forum? How can you say
one question is more important/better than
another? You are ofrgetting this is a
technicl support forum, not a message board.

I've been using linux for about a month, and I find it to be far easier to use than windows. Because there is always a problem with my computer (I don't have rich parents who can buy me a new one straight out of the box, so I usually have to use cheap hardware), I find it much easier to obtain documentation and help for problems under linux because of the open source model and strong community.
Basically people still use windows because
a) They can't be bothered to change their thinking
b) The full range of games is not yet available, and this is one of the main reasons people use computers. As games support continues to increase, and once everybody users high speed connections instead of software modems, linux should become the mainstream OS of choice.

I honsetly cant see how Linux is easier to use. The GUI is almost as easy, but the command-line is ridiculous.
Whe i went to school all we used was apple computers, thsi is still the case in most schools in australia, and I presume right across the world, so mst people grow up using and learning Apple, Windows only kicks in when they buy one at home and they make the logical choice of which is better.
As for your comment about ppl ot bothering to change their thinking, yes but why do they need to, Linux as such is still not as gooder OS as either MS version. Why are people going to spend months learning Linux when they really have no need to, windows suits them fine.Buy Microsoft stuff, NOW

Robbo,
I see now..
Okay, I have been wrong-you are just a
frustrated Linux man at heart.
Dual boot your machine, buy a few books,
(no one said it was going to be simple)
and when you begin to manipulate code and
optimize the OS to run the way that you have always wanted windows to run, you will see
our point of view.

I think this hole thing is bull. we are here to learn and ask questions and get help whichever system we use windows or linux and not argue which is better.

Then don't post to these ridiculous threads
if you don't like them. Read them for
entertainment so you can watch all the
monkeys buy into the corporate line: my OS is
better than yours.Post something if you feel the need to make
someone's life difficult then buy a
Playstation 2 or soemthing and play video
games. It really doesn't matter.

Playstation 2 seems a little expensive with not many features. I'd reccommend people buy a sega dreamcast for games, much better, and you can goto computing.net and post/read things from it. try that on a playstation.
Robbo.
p.s. that wasn't me trying to start a ps2 vs sega thing, i just think for the money the sega is better, at least for aussie buyers.

Does anyone have a good ascii drawing of a monkey? I'd like to use it so everyone knows I'm being sarcastic. 8P

Linux is trying to be more like Windows everyday. Linus Torvolds knows that in order for Linux to be as successful as even say Windows NT, many improvements need to be made. He quoted that this could take several more years.

In response to robbo's comment about linux's 'rediculous' command line. Umm, having a decent command line, with LOTS of power is a very real advantage. I wish windows had a decent command line. To harness the full power of your computer, you need BOTH a gui, AND a powerful command line interface.
And linux doesn't have to be that hard for the average person, just get someone to set it up for them, and bob's your uncle, they're clicking away just as easy as using windows. Perhaps a linux distro should be made that concentrates solely on simplicity for people who don't give a crap about computers, and just want to do their work.
Well, that's my two cents.Damien.

Damien,
Well You can do a hell of a lot from DOS. Secondly Linux technically has No GUI, and yes the basic user does not want a command line, no matter how powerfull it is, they only want a mouse.
As for the "get some one to setup for them" yeah fine, untill they change ISP's , download a program, hmmm want to buy a computer game even thewn there stuffed, at least with windows it is generally easy enough for a very basic user to do anything, and windows is foolproof, it really is hard to cause any damage with windows unless your trying, and new versionms (winME) will fix itself even if you do cause damage. You stuff up Linux and your rooted untill a technician comes in, oh and how bout them wantying tech support? not for linux sorry, they have a new isp, they cant help them with settings can they? Linux as a simple desktop computer makes no sense at all, as a cheaqp bodgy server yes, but then winNT/2000 is better for that.Robbo.
Thats my five cents. (2cents went redundent in australia years ago now.)
