I'm trying to install Suse Linux from their FTP site...
My main hard drive boots WinXP. Im working from here.
I have a second hard drive formatted to FAT32. I have a primary 504MB partition, a 384MB partition for swapfiling and a third partition onto which I have downloaded the entire instalation tree. In windows I enabled the drives network sharing in the properties dialogue.
I downloaded the boot ISO and burned it onto CD.
Heres my problem...
I do a network boot from the bios. It boots from the CD and loads the mini Linux kernels and the installer begins.
I choose manual installation which asks me for the source. When I point at the secondary drive it whines that it can't find the IMAGE. Thats as far as I get.
Im using the site
ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/This is my first attempt to use a Linux OS and I am floundering badly! Please help...

Thanks for the help guys.
It warms the heart that all of you experienced people rushed to help out a newbie like that.
It really does...
I'll stick to windows I think. Linux is clearly an elitist user group.

you could try another distro...or get suse isos and install from them...if i were you and this was my first attempt i would download the redhat isos and boot the the disk and follow the directions...Then when i had a running linux machine i would try to figure out how to do everything that i do in windows...you should have learned something by this point...and maybe now you are ready for a more hands on distro...or maybe you'll keep redhat who knows....good luck
