hi! I've been trying to make my AOpen cdwriter to work under my Mandrake 9.0 ... when I'm using xcdroast to copy a CD to HD the program often hangs, especially when copying an Audio CD to the HD ... Some times, it locks the whole system, whith the keyboard lights blinking...
When it doesn't lock the system, if I try to turn my PC off or reboot it, it will show me a message that says:

ide-scsi: expected 176400 got 178752 limit 1764000
hdd: lost interrupt
ide-scsi: the scsi wants to send us more data than expected - discarding data
ide-scsi: [[ be 4 0 0 4 65 0 0 4b 10 0 0 ]

and this message would repeat forever...

I didn't mention that I have the 2.4.22 kernel self compiled, and I haven't got a lot of knowledge about it so the problem may be there, it's just I have no idea what to do...

Thanks

could be wrong but looks like a buffer overun issue if your writer dosnt support buffer underun protection there is not much you can do except kill all extra processess before burning the cdrom or on a hd copy like listed above it could be a weak sector proble try cleaning the burner see if that helps or some companies use whats called weak sector burns for copywrite protection wich deliberatly crash the copying program..
sory not much more help must confess i use linux for everything except multimedia i still use xp for that since i allready have software im familiar with there

I have the same issue when I use ide-scsi emulation on my CD drives. I have tried 2.4.18 thru 2.4.23 kernels and none fix the issue. I have also tried 3 different CD drives with no success. Currently I am using the ide-cd module not ide-scsi. The performance is lower but I can burn and rip CD(s). I have tried several CD drives for ripping. The best is a 1999 A-Open ATAPI CD drive. All of the newer drives rip very slow. I think the ripper software does not understand newer drives. I run RedHat 9. I use Grip for ripping CDs and Xcdroast for burning CDs.

yeah, I can use the drives as IDE, but the performance is very low and it uses almost 100% of the processor (XP 1700+) at a point where I can't even move the mouse...
I think this is a problem of cdparanoia and cdda2wav , because I can copy cds to disk using scsi emulation with no problem, I can write data cds with no problem either... But when I extract audio with cdparanoia (or rip cds) it just hangs
