Hello-
First decide what distro you would like to download. The most common are Redhat, Mandrake, SuSe, Slackware, as well as many others. Redhat and Mandrake are generally recommended for newbies. Once you make a decision just go to their site, and select download, it will present you with a list of mirrors you can download from. Generally you download a few ISO files. I know the most current redhat version has 3. You download these image files and burn them to cd's . Then you just run the setup but inserting them into your cd rom and booting your computer (assuming your bios are set to boot from cd rom. if you have questions email me. hth

I found it much easier to just buy a distro from some place like ebay... I picked up Red Hat 7.1 last summer along with Star Office and another Red Hat CD for under $10... it's not bad and the install is pretty easy to figure out, and you can be pretty sure you've got everything you need... just the other day I saw a 6 CD Red Hat 7.3 distro for $12 on ebay. good luck, and welcome to linux!!
