OS: mandrake 9.2
CPU/Ram: p4 2.8/ 1g Corsair XMS
Comment:

I cannot get Mandrake 9.2 to install. I've tried multiple times and get hung up on the same place during installation every time.
Background: I'm a newbie to Linux, chose Mandrake 9.2, ordered all the CD's from Cheapbytes. The system I'm installing on I just built, it's a Asus P4P800-deluxe MB, P4 2.8 Gig (O.C'd to 3.36), 1 Gig Corsair XMS Memory, WD Raptor 36g, Maxtor SATA 80 Gig, Lite-on DVD-r, ATI AIW 9600 Pro Vid Card. I have XP fully installed and working as well as XP can work, so I want both OS's on my WD Raptor HD, the SATA is to used for archiving only. Something I've noticed, and whether this has anything to do with my install problems or not, I don't know, but when my BIOS boot up it detects nothing for Prim. Master, Prim. Slave, Sec. Master, or Secondary Slave, however when I go to set my boot sequence the Raptor, my floppy, and DVD-R all show up, so XP boots up fine of the Raptor SATA. NOW, on to the Mandrake issue.......get first screen, {enter} to install, select language, mouse type, agreement, then get to the Partition selections. The first time I chose to partition existing Windows drive, then I believe it ask me what I wanted to install, Web, Multimedia, GUI's, bootloader (chose Lilo(?), etc....then went on and acted like everthing was fine. Went rebooted and it booted up windows xp just like normal. Fooled around with it ended up formating the partition created by Linux to a FAT 32. On the next installation attempt in choosing what partition to install on I found my newly formatted 6.6 Gig Fat 32. I chose it...it's description was "Win 98 Fat 32, LBA mapped 6.6GB (19%). Told me to select "mount point" then told me that I needed to select "mount point" and then "/". Clicked mount point, clicked the slash and got this message..."You need a true file system (ext2/ext3, reiserf, xfs, or jfs) for this mount point...........I'm lost from there....actually I was probaly lost way before that!
Sorry for the long post...if you actually read through it all and can make any sense of it, then I would appreciate your help.
Thanks,

Bryan

make your post easier to read, because i was scratching my head throughout all of what i could bring myself to read

Geoff,

Sorry, I know it's long....but if skim through it, you'll that listing my hard drives is an issue I addressed. If you have time, I would appreciate it. The last spill of the whole thing describes the error I'm getting during Mandrake installation. If your still confused, post back, and I'll trim it down! Thanks,

Bryan
