That should catch your eye.
System setup: Rh7.1, Linksys BEFSR41 cable/dsl router, PACSMELL DSL and a dynamic IP address mapped through dns2go to my domain name btshadows.net.

Both my linux and Windows ME box are setup with dhcp (okay but the nic cards are assigned ip address's of 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101. (I assume those would be static address since they do not change) If I open /etc/sysconf/ifcfg-eth0 it shows the ip address correctly but dhcp.

If I change that to static I lose my internet connection both in and out.

This problem started when someone said I cannot access your website (I host it on my linux box with Apache). I tried and no problem while I sat at either of my computers. When I went to work I got the infamous server time out error. Okay so that means that either port 80 or 8080 is blocked from the router to the linux box nope that is not the case they are both listed in the forwarding tab.

My question now that you know my life story is HOW DO I GET MY LINKSYS/LINUX configured so that people can access the website?

Near as I can tell there are NO virtual hosts setup (basic let the system install apache) and I have not messed around in httpd.conf

If you need to see the config files let me know I will email them to you.

Thank you so much.

Ras

The problem is, how does someone from the internet know how to get to your local area network? By local area I mean your linux box at 192.168.X.X Does your router do NATing? For someone to hit you linux box it needs an internet IP. You cannot route a private network to the internet when it looks like a 192.168.what-ever the can browse the web because you are masquarading your internal IPs. Personally I use my Linux box as my router (it needs to NICs then), and I have two windows boxes and one more linux box on my local network. I'm not sure what those cable modem and DSL routers are capable of. Let me know what I can do to help. I am very comfortable linux and routing.

I too am having the same trouble. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 cable/dsl router connected to a Linux box running Apache 1.3. Accessing the web pages from the intranet works fine. Only from the internet does it fail. The strange thing is that if I disconnect my laptop from the intranet and use the modem to my dialup account or netzero account it does work correctly.

Please share any information you may have on this problem.

Thanks

I had exactly the same problem - Apache
works on local network, works at large
without the Linksys router, but doesn't
work with it. I enabled MTU chopping and
set it to the maximum size (1476) - under
the "Filters" tab of the Linksys config
area, and voila! It now works.

Let me echo what Mathieu Gagne said. I, too, had the exact same problem with my setup. After setting the MTU to 1476 on the "Filters" page, all of my problems went away.

Immediately after I made this new entry, I tested it by going to NetMechanic's HTML Code checking link, at http://www.netmechanic.com/toolbox/html-code.htm

Before, I would get a simple "timeout" message. Now it analyzes the page, and all of its links, without a hitch.

Mathieu - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!
