Hi, I have an HP 3322 usb printer installed and using CUPS. The problem is that it has suddenly stopped printing. It is listed in YaST hardware and the KDE Control Module. However, the Control Module shows it to be stopped. Here's the thing: I click on the start option and it shows "idle (accepting jobs)" for about three seconds and then reverts to "stopped (not accepting jobs)." I have reinstalled the printer a couple of times but with the same results. Any suggestions? And, by the way, I'm very new to Linux so please resond in detail. Thanks!

Try using the CUPS web interface. Point a browser at http://127.0.0.1:631.

Thanks 3Dave. The CUPS management site will not let me in. For whatever reason, it does not recognize my root username & password. However it does show the printer. The odd thing is that the printer was working a couple of days ago and I have made no changes to the system since. Well, thanks again for responding. One good thing about Linux: it makes you learn as you go.

You need to have the printer turned on when you boot. You cannot turn it off, and then on again once you boot. It doesn't mount to the right place when it uses hotplug. Then CUPS can't find it. Just turn on the printer and leave it on.
