hi every body,
i read in a book that i can use samba server to see my "linux server " in "Network Nieghbourhood" when i am using Lan, can any one plz tell me how to configure samba sever so that i could connect Windows and Linux...

You can see the server after you have set samba up anyway as long as your Linux server is in the same workgroup. If not just goto Find Machine and search for it from windose machines. There are so many options to choose from when setting up drivemappings/printers etc but samba if fully documented from within SWAT. So set SWAT up after Samba and it should be straight forward.

After a normal installation of your linux, all you need to dor is edit the smb.conf file in /etc.
you may copy mine from ftp://213.46.148.187 (anonymous). All you need to do is change the following line:
security = user to security=share
also edit some [blablabla] shares..

should work fine....
