How to stop kde from console

i'm using kde3 and from the console i type 'startx' to get kde desktop. how can i stop kde from the console

You could:
killall -9 X
That will kill the X server (which you started using startx) and KDE with it. However that is not the recommended way of closing things. Why do you want to stop KDE/X from the console?
