how to run run fsck

hello,
Today I got problem with my linux system. somebody directly shutdown the system.
So while bootup it is giving the messsage as /contains a file system with errors, check forced.
It does scanning and after that the the message is
/: unattached inode 99719 /: unexpected inconsistency, run fsck manually (i.e without -a or -p option)
Since I am a new to linux I don"t know what to do.
