Today I got problem with my linux system.
somebody directly shutdown the system.

So while bootup it is giving the messsage as
/contains a file system with errors, check forced.

It does scanning and after that the the message is

/:
unattached inode 99719
/: unexpected inconsistency, run fsck manually (i.e without -a or -p option)

Since I am a new to linux I don"t know what to do.

Please inform clearly.

just run fsck :

fsck -y /dev/hd(x)

The -y option will say yes to all asked
questions...

Also, I think you should use a journaling
filesystem, ext3, reiserfs or xfs...
