Hi
I installed RH 7.3 on my Dell Inspiron Laptop. The installation went fine and I can start linux. However during the startup I get the error;
Bringing up Interface eth0 : [FAILED]
Determining IP Information for eth0 failed.

The startup stops at this point for a while and then proceeds with no problem.

HOwever I am keen to fix this problem. Does anybody has any idea how to fix it ?

Thanks

Anand

Do you by any chance have the Actiontec
10/100 NIC based on the Intel 82559 EEPro?

If so, and it won't connect at 100Mbit,
which is the most common problem with these
junk NICs that dell gave out, then you have
to set the NIC to 10Mbit half-duplex, which
you will have to read up on.

However, the problem could simply be that
you haven't configured your network settings
correctly in RH.

you might have to change the boot order if its a pmcia card some distros load etho before the pcmcia drivers (see where this inherintly bombs ) in that scenario you have to make pcmcia load first than eth0

Hi,
I am not sure what NIC it is. All I know is that it is a 10/100 Network card/Modem combo. I had previously installed RH 7.3 on the same laptop but that never gave any such messages. So I believe it is some network configuration problems. Can anybody tell me how to configure the network settings.

Anand

One way is to get hold of a copy of the Linuxconf rpm (from redhat.com direct, or from mirror.ac.uk or somewhere similar) and install that.

Then you can have access to easily setup your network card. It sounds like it's either started before the PCMCIA drivers load (as was pointed out before) or it's not able to find a DHCP server.

Enjoy Linuxconf!

Are you using networking?
Do you expect eth0 to be connected to a
network?
