I have recently come into possession of a Toshiba T3600CT laptop. It is a 50Mhz 486 with 8 megs of ram. While I will be upgrading its ram to 24 megs later - the max supported - I would like to know how to load Linux onto it, as I doubt very much that Win95 will be sufficient to do what I want this laptop to do.
My goals are:
1) Browse the Internet
2) Read/Send email
3) Instant messaging
4) OpenOfficeand optionally
5) Simple games
The difficulty lies in that, other than playing around with a Knoppix CD on my desktop, I have no working knowledge of Linux.
Also, this laptop lacks a floppy or CD drive. Currently, I am able to transfer files to it after a long session of trial and error getting it networked with my XP desktop.
It has a PCMCIA Xircom "CreditCard Ethernet 10/100" for network connectivity.
Once I have Linux up and running, I'd like to move up to a wireless card.
So please, if anyone can help me get this system up and running, i'd be grateful.
Thanks!

You need to read, read, read....etc.
Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.

This doc might help you:
