Hey i got a laptop but the HDD does not have a os installed on it can i have some help on how to boot it from a usb stick.........
Thanks

Google: install linux from a usb stick
See e.g. "Install Ubuntu from a USB stick" at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick

I suggest distrowatch.
Then burn some live cd's to see which distro you like.
UK MP's are thieving scumbags.
EU members are worse.

You have hundreds of choices of distro's that can be installed to a memory stick. You have to have a working computer to download and install to the memory first. If you computer can boot to that device then you can boot to the memory and then install what you want.
Other choices include booting from CD/DVD, floppy, network (intranet or internet) and maybe pcmcia.
