how to extract iso images of linux

ive downloaded .iso images of linux, when i write those images on cds the whole image is copied on the cd, how to extract those images so that it becomes a bootable installer

Looks like a windows problem for me, at www.gentoo.org look for installation documents and the process for burning Iso in commonly used windows programs is described. If you want the answer for linux program X CD roast, look at the FAQ at www.xcdroast.org; the problem is also solved over there.

What proram are you using to burn the ISOs? If you are using nero, choose "Burn Image" from the file menu and then select one of your ISO files in the file browser that pops up.
