I d/l'd Mandrake 9 & Redhat 8. Burned Mandrake to disk & popped it in- autoruns to the main menu. Did the same with Redhat- no joy. I've tried all sorts of things- ruined 4 disks already. Explorer shows all on the disk- looks good- what's wrong? How do I get it to autorun, & if I can't, steps to make a boot floppy?
Thanks you all!

I did the same thing, and ruined 5 CDs, how dumb of me... at least CDRs are cheap these days.

The way to burn ISOs varies with the Software that you are using. At least with Nero, I have a vague idea of what to do. When you go to the burn menu, there will be "Music CD, Data CD, blah", you need to go to "Other Formats" or some option like that, and there you will see "ISO", that is what you need to click on. By the way, for Redhat 8.0, YOU ONLY NEED THE FIRST 2 CDs, I think the third one has server stuff, and the last two are source code, which I assume you do not need.

for other software, I imagine there is an ISO option when burning as well

What type of cd burner do you use? If it is easy cd creator goto: file> record CD from CD image> select *.iso instead of *.cif and then find the iso file you downloaded and boot it. If you want to crete a boot disk for redhat 7.2 goto ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.2/en/os/i386/images/ and select the .img for you (read the read me file) also use rawrite (windows) or dd (linux) to write the .img files to the floppy you can get dd and/or rawrite from
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/8.0/en/os/i386/dosutils/

if you use ez cd creater there is an option you have to select, once you fine your iso. you want to burn, there is an advanced button there click on it and select disk at once, not track at once, or your cd will be unusable.

Hey back all-

I use Nero 5.5.

Burning per "Samer's way" & others here didn't work. I had to use WinRAR to unpack & burn the contents- what's up with that?

I tried every possible burning config in Nero & finally unpacked. Weird.

Tried to install Redhat today (on VirtualPC)- got to the part where you choose your monitor (mine's Envision so isn't listed) nothing was chosen so I picked one- tested- looked OK. Next. The following screen was small (couldn't see the whole screen- couldn't adjust even though there were arrows, it wouldn't "drag"). Tried everything & end up having to scrap the whole deal (after waiting 1-1/2 hrs for the install (takes longer on VPC). Tomorrow's another day!

Hey All

I have used Nero also to try and burn REdhat 8.0 CDs. Weird thing with mine, is that it boots the installation, but when I get to the part and asks what kind of install (ie. CD,Network,etc...) I select CD, then it asks me to insert the CD into the drive. Well I just booted off the CD so its in the drive, why cant it see past that part. Could this be a setting in Nero that I might have screwed up????

Trent
