Ho w can i write a cd to run linux from a cd
so i can use my hard disk for other thing

Easier said then done. But it isn't impossible. The only problem with a CD is that it is read only so you need to create a ram drive to work in. I suggest you read the following HOWTO to find out how to create a filesystem on a floppy/cdrom together with a kernel: http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Bootdisk-HOWTO/index.html
