I've installed Mandrake 8.2 on my dual boot W2K/W98 machine. When I boot I get the Linux window (not sure what you call this window) that gives me an option of booting to Linux, Failsafe, floppy, windows and windows2. Not sure what the windows 2 is but if I select windows, it gives me my boot choice between 98 and 2K. Anyways, how do I change the default OS to load? I would like for my 2K to be the default. Thanks.

First,

The menu is either driven by grub or lilo. They are both bootloaders provided by linux.

What would you like to have as the default OS? Windows or linux?

If windows, you need to get the windows boot loader into the MBR. I'm not an exper windows user so... I can't help you out there. If linux, let me see your grub.conf or lilo.conf.

I've never encountered using three different OS in my pc but since win2k and win9x is pretty much the same thing, I guess it'll be ok.
From your message, it looks like the primary boot sector has windows and linux. If you then choose linux, you then go to another boot sector that deals with specific windows load. I'm not an expert on this but that shouldn't be happening. I believe you can set up grub or lilo to explicitly deal with the situation regarding two windows.

Don't know any boot loader that will default to a specific OS. that's the purpose of the loader, to give you options. It sounds like your boot loader is not working at it should. I use system commander 7 instead of lilo or grub, so can't help you with those. with sc7, you are presented with the os menu for your selection. check out sc7, it's more than a boot loader by far.
