I'm using Redhat 7.3 with samba as my domain controller and windows NT4/2000 machines as my clients. I was using roaming profiles, but have now disabled that on the server.
Now when you log on or off of any workstation, you get an info message stating that the roaming profile can not be found.

What do I need to do on the workstations to stop them from looking to the server for their profiles? I should add that all of my users have their profiles on their local machines.

First, this is posted in the wrong group. This is an NT administration issue, and should be in one of the windows NT/2000/XP groups.

The answer to this depends on whether your user accounts are domain accounts or local accounts (local to each machine). If they are domain accounts, you really don't want to disable roaming profiles - you will give yourself more headaches than it's worth if you do so. If they are local accounts, you need to go to the user administrator (or use your own favorite admin tool/method) and edit *every* user account's profile settings. You just need to disable roaming profiles, and/or set up the profile path for each user.

I posted it here because I'm using samba and samba turned out to be the problem.
In this case it's both a Linux AND windows issue.

Also I hate posting in the windows group because there's not as much technical competence there.

What I had to do was re-enable roaming profiles in Samba, change the profiles from roaming to local on the workstations, then disable roaming in samba

Oh, and thanks for providing your help. It's hard to find straightforward advice like yours on the windows board.
