I am a newb and I downloaded the latest
release of pureftpd and ran:
./configure
make
make install
What the hell am I doing wrong? Sould I run
into ANY Error messages during the install?
I installed from the home/sbin/
pure-ftpd-1.0.17a/ directory from the
konsole. I typed cd /home/sbin/pure-ftpd &
and I got a status of:
[1] 15xxx
[1] Exit 127 pure-ftpd
I dont remember the last 3 numbers after the
15 (I didnt write them down). I figured I
did something wrong and following the
instructions from the documentation on
pure-ftpds website I did an immediate:
./configure
make uninstall
I looked through the documentation and
installed it again:
./configure
make install
I got errors in the log. I tried to start
the server again and I got this:
[1] 21943
[1] Exit 127 pure-ftpd
I went to 'find files' and searched for
pure-ftpd and I got the src and something
called pam in a subdirectory.
I know I dont know much about linux. I
downloaded some documentation and I will
read and figure it out myself but any
suggestions are appreciated. What did I do
wrong?

According to www.suse.com it IS included in the retail version of SuSE 9.0 Pro !!!
- Start up YAST2 (Where we configure everything)
- Go to the "wizard" which let you install packages (it probably is somewhere in the software submenu called install packages)
- Select pureftdp to install, I assume it is waiting somewhere between other useful netwerk related stuf which can be installed.

By the way, installing with the system packages management tool will allow the package to be updated for (security) flaws/bugs during your normal system update. If installed from source, normally you have to check for updates yourself.
