Hello all. I am painfully new to linux and I have installed red hat 7.3 in workstation mode and it is up and running on my network using dhcp. I want to change or just give this machine a name, how do I do this?

Hey, who isn't?
click on system/network configuration, then edit your hostname.

You might also be able to configure your dhcp server to pass out host names as well as other info bound to a mac address.

I thought that DHCP set up your hostname for you. I think as some point I tried to change mine and then the login screen would not come up any more. Then I had to change the host file back! I have tried many different variations and never got the hostname changed and that is when I gave into the dhcp name and just let it ride.. David, have you personally done this? could you be more descriptive of the changes you made? are you using dhcp? Thanks
