I'm taking my first stab a Linux and just installed Mandrake 9.2. I installed it on a machine running winxp...let the install partition the windows drive...chose the Lilo bootloader with GUI...everything seem to go fine, but when I rebooted it automatically comes up to XP! What did I miss? Thanks,

Perhaps you didn't write lilo to your MBR. You should be able to use the installation CD to boot your system, from there you can make a floppy boot disk with the "mkbootdisk" command. To make sure lilo gets written to your MBR, edit /etc/lilo.conf and make sure that you have "boot = /dev/hda" in there. You can then write it to your MBR by running "lilo".

The first time I installed MDK, I had that problem, to fix it, just re install it, thats what I did and it worked.

btm, don't listen and be mislead to tHIS crap:rolleyes:(as some people are too ignorant to find out ANY info on their own). Linux isn't windoze, where you have to re-install the OS to fix such a simple problem.
To re-write your bootloader, boot up with the first mdk CD and press F1. Type in "rescue" (without the quotes) and a menu will give you the option to re-write lilo to your mbr.
Simple, isn't it?
