I canīt find a sound driver for the ESS Allegro 1989,
Can you say me where can I get one?

I have a ESS 1688 sound card and I tried some linux flavors. In any one I use Sound Blaster compatible and it works well. (since Red Hat 5.1)
If you use a Red Hat based distribution use "setup" to configure your sound card, logged as root.
When your sound card works, you can heard Linus Torvalds saying the right pronunciation of Linux...
