I just installed Red Hat 4.3 that someone gave me and I'm wondering: 1. How do I update it 2. What's the most recent version and 3. Why do all of the screenshots I've seen have Windows-like desktops and mine has just a command prompt sorta thing ($)

You are using some historic version of Redhat linux. the latest one is RedHat Linux 7.3 but any 7.0 onword will work as all 7.x are almost same.
you can download it from redhat.com
you will get GUI installation for 7.x.

Redhat 4.3 is very old. You need a current version as Neeraj mentioned. If you are a long time MS windows user, Mandrake is the best Desktop and allround distro.

I use Mandrake Linux 8.2 Powerpack Edition.

Charles

Redhat is lan and server oriented with desktop as a distant afterthought.
