Hi guys,

I have a question regarding an older version of Linux Redhat: version 6.1. I couldn't find the ISO for it anywhere on the web, but I did find the contents of the CD from ftp.redhat.com. How can I create the bootable CDs if I don't have the ISO, and all I have are the CD contents?

Thanks.

I can't find 6.1, but I found the 6.2 iso here:

ftp://ftp.dulug.duke.edu/pub/redhat/linux/6.2/en/iso/i386

Why so old a version? Is it because it only takes up one cd? If so, you may want to look at knoppix. It is much newer, takes up and boots from one cd.

Thanks guys.

hwood: The old version is cuz I have a legacy device and it's driver was compiled for the kernel version 2.2.14 which I believe is Redhat 6.1. I don't have the source code for the driver, otherwise I would have compiled it on any version of redhat I wanted.

3Dave: Is your version 6.1 updated and is the installation bug free? I'm using a fairly new system (motherboard/cpu), will this pose any problems with the installation? Where can I get it from you?

Guys,

Installing redhat (or getting hold of it at least) has made me sleepless for the past 3 nights!

I found the ISOs for both 6.1 and 6.2. But here's the thing, they both fail during installation:

File "/usr/lib/anaconda/comp.sys"
line 46 in __getitem__
return self.packages[item]
KeyError: basesystem

Can you guys help me out? I'm running this on a Celeron machine with an Intel 845 chipset.

I went to updates.redhat.com and found an /images folder with updated *.img files. I used rawrite.exe to move the image to a floppy, booted with the floppy and specified the CDROM as the source of my installation files. Still faced the same problem. Do I have to update the ISO (i.e. CD contents)?

Help..

Hisham

How about installing a newer distro (it may be that v6.1 doesn't like your newer 845 chipset) and then downloading and compiling the linux kernel 2.2.14 from kernel.org (ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.14.tar.bz2)

Did you check the md5sums of the ISOs you downloaded?

My version of RH 6.1 was downloaded on release and installed fine when I tried it. I could post it to you but if you alread have the ISOs there is probably no point.
